WHY HEMP?

We chose hemp fabric that is blended with organic cotton fibres and spandex so that it it's stretchy, feels snug, and lasts. It has a softness like linen or flannel, and softens more and more as you live in it. It relaxes with wear, and snaps back in the wash — kind of like jeans.

Hemp innovation has come a long way; there is no reason why it shouldn’t be in modern closets, and there is no need for it to be correlated to its intoxicating relative. It’s an abundant crop that feeds the soil, helps reduce carbon emissions, while being a fabric that performs well and feels good on the body.

Why? Because:

  • It doesn’t require chemicals and pesticides to grow or process it
  • It leaves the soil with nitrogen after harvest
  • Hemp can produce 250% more fibre than cotton on the same amount of land
  • One hectare of industrial hemp can absorb 15 tonnes of CO2, more than what's emitted from the equipment used to harvest, process, and transport it. (Source: European Industrial Hemp Association)
  • It is a tolerant plant that assists in phytoremediation. You can plant it in contaminated soil, and the roots drink pollutants, removing heavy metals and unwanted toxins from the soil, leaving it better than as it was before
  • The fibres are historically known for being durable and outlasting
  • While you can't compost our bras + undies due to the spandex content, we chose this fabric due to how sustainable it is for the land it grows on, and the sustainability of processing the fibres
